Coffee is a beverage with over a 1000 years of history, so it is not surprising that numerous brewing methods have popped up over the years. You can find most brewing methods, from cold brew to the simple pour-over, in nearly all coffee shops

If you are a beginner at brewing coffee then you might be confused about what is the most suitable method for you. Today, we will be discussing the most popular coffee brewing methods in 2022:

1. Pour-over

How To Do It

Pour-over is one of the most common coffee brewing methods out there.

All you need to do for preparation is grab a paper filter and place it into a dripper. You will then place your coffee grounds into that same dripper and pour in hot water. The hot water will then flow through the ground coffee and seeps below through the dripper, creating your coffee liquid, while the paper filter will make sure any impurities will stay separated.

You can use a Chemex carafe if you want to use the pour-over method to make a large amount of coffee at once.

As for the grind size, we recommend using a medium grind size with a 3-minute pour time to make sure the coffee has a balanced taste. If you opt to use a Chemex carafe,

Why We Like It

The coffee you get from this brewing method has a nice velvety texture and balanced taste. All the equipment you need for this method is also relatively inexpensive and can be bought in any supermarket.

Who Is It Best Suited For

While the pour-over method is often considered to be beginner-friendly, you will still need a lot of focus to pull it off. The pouring technique is not something you can master on the first try so you must be willing to experiment and keep on trying. Using the wrong technique may result in poor-quality coffee.

2. Cold Brew

How To Do It

Cold brew is a very simple and easy brewing method that any beginner can master. It involves submerging your ground coffee in room temperature water and placing it in either the fridge or the counter. This immersion period lasts for anywhere between 8 to 24 hours; the longer the process, the stronger the cold brew concentrate. Oh, and the grind should be medium-fine.

Why We Like It

We absolutely love cold brew coffee because of its flexibility. It is perfect for hot summer days, but you can also heat it up for when the temperature drops. Cold brew is also less acidic than espressos and other types of coffee, making them suitable to consume for those with stomach issues. Lastly, cold brew coffee has very high caffeine content, making them the go-to option for morning pick-me-ups and midday energy boosts.

Who Is It Best Suited For

Cold brew is best for those who would like to have to have coffee ready in the fridge, due to its long fridge life. It is also a great choice for those living in tropical countries like Singapore.

3. French Press

How To Do It

Similar to cold brew, the French Press brewing method is considered an immersion technique. Here, ground coffee is immersed in hot water for a few minutes before the liquid is filtered using the metal filter. This metal filter limits the amount of oil and particles in the coffee.

Why We Like It

French Press coffee is very dense and heavy. This allows them to perfectly blend with lighter and sweeter additives, such as cream or milk, to create different kinds of coffee drinks (think cappuccinos and lattes).

Who Is It Best Suited For

Anyone with access to a French Press can use this brewing method. The equipment can also serve as a serving carafe so that you don’t have to pour it into a jug.
